ruffles, sparkles and mesh

three textures to try

Ruffles are so cool.   They add volume,  dimension and create a dense texture when layered.   They are artistically blessed and visually stunning when draped or strategically placed.   Although ruffles do add size, flattering silhouettes are achievable and give a really high fashion element.   This of course is up to the designers and their pattern makers to lavish us with their ribbon-esque masterpieces!   This top is really a piece of art…

Here, it’s been brought down to earth with some distressed light wash denim.   However you could elevate it to new heights with a leather skirt and boots.   Or even wear it with a satin floor length skirt fit for a Cinderella moment!

I mean really, who doesn’t love a sparkle now and then!  Whether we’re talking sequins, gold or silver splatters, glittery patches or shiny buttons, a bit of sparkle goes a long way.

Sparkle gives instant wow factor to your outfit and is reminiscent of the disco days.   Studio 54 anyone?
Mesh is a lot softer than tulle, which can be quite stiff.   However this silver splattered netting is really holding it’s own showing great structure through it’s frilled edges.

This shirt is really eye catching.   Paired with a leather skirt it’s given me a nice evening or day event outfit.

I’m instantly transported back to my ballerina days when I wear this mesh skirt, although I’m channeling the dark swan rather than the white one!   A mesh skirt has a real femininity about it, whilst showing a bit of skin at the same time.
A sheer fabrication can be really fun and flirty when you incorporate it into a look. This skirt can be worn so many ways, see how I’ve styled it here with some trainers in a recent post!

Layered ruffles, sparkles and mesh are three textured fabrications that will add depth to your outfit and a really give it a nice pop.   So much character and substance!   Texture comes in endless options…think chunky knitwear, brocade, heavy linens, distressed sections and patch work are just some of the compositions that can really make things interesting.

What items do you have in your wardrobe that have great texture?   My fave is my grey faux fur jacket, it stands out big time when I rock it… xx
