getting it on in gingham

Gingham is a really solid trend right now showing up in all the latest collections and in little snippets (or big ones) all over our favourite fashion “it” girls, bloggers, online publications and celebrity style queens. Whether you add a little or a lot, a gingham print can give your outfit a really nice dimension. This fabrication really suits being tied, twisted and volumised. It was literally born to be sculpted and creatively designed by it’s master.

The mini check is one of my all time faves and is the print of choice for the season (stripes are taking a little break for now). Gingham can come in many colours, however the traditional choice is black and white and this versatile monochromatic colour palette is super easy to style with the rest of your wardrobe.

I like to add a touch of gingham with staple basics and denim, or back with block colour separates. Otherwise if it’s a hero piece, left to shine with leather or some sleek pants and edgy accessories.

Be careful not to look too preppy or “little bo peep” by choosing interesting silhouettes like off the shoulder or ruffles, high waisted pants, asymmetrical skirts or structured shirting. If you wear a full gingham piece like a dress or top and pant combo, keep your accessories to block colours so you don’t give off too many hypnotic vibrations and paralyse your crew.

I didn’t want to wear too much gingham so this little one shouldered crop piece was the perfect way to introduce the print without being too overbearing. I’ve just added it over a thin stretch top and it has a nice little playful aspect to it.

This Marques Almeida off the shoulder ruffle top is a real hero piece. I wanted to let it have it’s moment but pairing it with simple slim leg denims, grey accessories and a suede fringe clutch to compliment it.

Adding a little pop of colour to your gingham outfit is the perfect way to lift your outfit. I choose denim!

So in a nutshell, you can add a little or a lot. Just be careful on it’s placement and pairings to let this sweet little check out chick be heard. Will you, have you, want to try it? How have you styled gingham this season?
