mbfwa 2017 – day 3

Australian Fashion Week

The Shows

Katama by Garrett Neff

Good morning Sydney! What a day for the Katama by Garrett Neff show which was located offsite at the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool, overlooking Woolloomooloo Harbour with a mind blowing backdrop of enormous military ships and perfect blue skies.

The designer Garrett Neff who is a successful international model, created the Katama brand from influences of his childhood and the love of growing up over summers with his family by Katama Bay in the USA. The immaculate models wore a selection of relaxed poolside, beach wear and stylish separates that all worked perfectly together to create a preppy but edgy presentation in a muted palette with little pops of green, orange and the occasional print.

NEXT GEN

I was really excited to see the emerging Australian designers showcase their Resort 18 collections. It’s always wonderful to see who’s new on the scene and I absolutely loved the show featuring Isabelle Quinn, Meredith Bullen, Sarah Hope Schofield, Stanzee, Stephanie Henley and Victoria Bliss.

Hansen & Gretel

Coloured gingham, leopard and a captivating floral jungle print was the order of the day for the Hansen & Gretal show. Feminine silhouettes with ruffles, simple tees and crochet were worked back with slightly more structured pieces like slouchy trousers, duster dresses and layered skirts and blouses. The whole collection tied together to make a complete and unified story that was truly a work of art.

Pageant

The Pageant collection was super bold with a definitive sport-luxe / high-tech style aesthetic. It was so unique with its own “DNA” which was really refreshing. It offered a swimwear component as well as everyday separates and dresses. A focus on textured fabrications gave each piece a real edge with striking block colours like orange, white, khaki, yellow, burgundy and electric blue.

Bec & Bridge

Bec & Bridge never fails to amaze! Season after season we are inspired by a strong selection of dresses in genius silhouettes. Innocent, yet unquestionably “cool girl” with high hems, deep v’s and spaghetti straps that oozed sex appeal.

The colours were blocked and bold with pops of red and blue among a solid base of black and white.   Polk-a-dots, mesh, leather and ruffles gave gorgeous texture throughout. A dark denim, tee and pinstripe suiting story was the perfect balance and gave the collection a real edge.

Michael lo Sordo

I absolutely adored the Michael Lo Sordo Resort 18 presentation. It was dynamic, bold and sexy. Lace body suits under floor length skirts showing peek-a-boo hipbones was a definite high light for me. So dang gorgeous and inventive! Has this ever been done before?
A silk component of dresses, skirts and trench coat jackets overlapped with a really powerful “wet-look” fabrication. Cottons came through in similar silhouettes in tones of fire engine red, pink, yellow, black and light blue. Super relaxed and slouchy suiting with a pinstripe story gave a more tailored dimention to the collection and completed the story. From start to finish I was captivated.

What I Wore – Day 3

I loved this outfit! I think it was my favourite for the week! Serious “mom jeaning” going on here with some earthy but edgy pieces to take it up a level. The gold boots were a hit…

What I Ate

Pork belly salad and a glass of Pommery. Sooooo yum!

The Queensland Crew!

Honestly, the week wouldn’t have been nearly as good without my Blogging Babes right there beside me. We had the BEST time together! It was so good to share our love of fashion and support each other along the way. It was also pretty handy as we took each others photos and created some amazing content together! Talk about being inspired!

Representing Queensland with me was Aicha Robertson from The Fashion Heist and Yvette Hardy from @fashionevolve. Not to forget Nick Azar who is such a talented photographer and Aicha’s partner as well. A big thank you to Nick for capturing so many amazing moments throughout the event for us. We all got along so well and had a real blast… I think we did Queensland proud!

Wrap Up – Day 3

Day three was just awesome. I had the best day and saw some amazing brands. It’s been great to reconnect with the Australian designers. I also met some wonderful Bloggers and Influencers who are part of my fifideluxe community and it was great to finally meet them in person.

We went home to our divine hotel rooms, ordered UBER EATS and continued to work to midnight again!   xx
